Mitchel Kennedy Killed in FM 2661 Head-On Collision [Smith County, TX]

Smith County, TX (May 4, 2023) – On Tuesday, Mitchel Kennedy, 61, and Rodrigo Talavera, 43, of Tyler, were killed in an FM 2661 head-on collision.

The fatal collision took place before 8 a.m. bout 5.5 miles north of Coffee City.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Talavera was northbound on the road when at the same time, Kennedy was southbound. 

Officers said Talavera failed to drive in a single lane and swerved into the oncoming southbound lane. As a result, Talavera’s vehicle collided with Kennedy’s. 

Unfortunately, both Kennedy and Talavera were declared dead at the scene.
