Police Investigate Crash on Interstate 5 in Maxwell

Maxwell, CA (January 31, 2025) – A wrong-way driver caused a crash on Interstate 5 involving several vehicles this morning, according to the CHP.

The incident took place just before 10:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes, north of Maxwell Road. 

The driver was traveling north in the southbound lanes when they hit the first car in their path. 

The driver of that car tried to swerve to avoid the collision but was clipped, causing the vehicle to sideswipe another car in the slow lane.

Officers reported that only minor injuries occurred in the crash. 

While the CHP doesn’t suspect drugs or alcohol were involved, they believe the elderly driver from Willows may have been suffering from dementia, which could have contributed to the wrong-way driving.
