One Fatality in Highway 99 DUI Hit-And-Run Crash

Delano, CA (May 30, 2020)– On May 29, Miguel Rosales died while the driver, a 17-year-old Samantha Valdez, sustained injuries in a DUI hit-and-run crash in Highway 99. Police continue searching for the suspect Anthony Cuevas.

The collision happened at around 3:10 p.m. on May 29. Dispatched officers arrived and located two sprawled vehicles on the scene in which one caught on fire.

Reportedly, the driver of a white 1999 Ford pickup was speeding down Highway 99 south, north of Delano, when the Ford slammed into the rear of a sedan, driven by Valdez.

Moreover, the impact sent the car into a third vehicle driven by a 66-year-old Pixley woman. She suffered minor injuries.

Shortly after, the sedan burst into flames. Officers rescued the two occupants, but Valdez’s unknown passenger died on the spot. Responders then airlifted Valdez to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford fled the scene on foot. Police said the vehicle is registered out of Kings City in Monterey County, but was sold last month.

Investigators are searching the at-fault driver, Anthony Ruben Cuevas. He has one recorded prior DUI conviction.

Furthermore, investigators described Cuevas as having notable tattoos on his face and neck. Also an “SF” San Francisco 49ers logo on the left side of his neck and “Leticia” on the right side of his neck.

Police continue the investigation and are asking for any information regarding the collision or the whereabouts of Cuevas. If so, please call investigators at the Visalia Area CHP Office at 734-6767 or 262-0400.

Sweet Lawyers extends our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Miguel Rosales. May the bereaved find strength and comfort in this trying time. We also hope Ms. Valdez and the other woman injured have a speedy recovery.

Wrongful Death Claims

It is clear now more than ever that one person’s negligence can have devastating effects on other individuals. This is quite common in accidents that result in death. While assigning blame is the least priority in a time like this, it is important to make sure your family is covered in the face of tragedy. Therefore, it is crucial to hire legal representation to properly handle the immediate aftermath of an accident similar to that reported above.
