Texas Traffic Accident Kills Driver Kelly Caldwell

Brown County, TX (March 15, 2023) – On Tuesday night, Michael Wiser, 64, of Lorena, and Kelly Caldwell, 53, of Brownwood, lost their lives following a head-on collision on FM 45.

Texas DPS responded to the crash scene at about 8:36 p.m. approximately 3 miles south of Brownwood involving a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck that collided in the middle of the roadway.

When they arrived, responding officers discovered a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck that had collided in the middle of the roadway.

Caldwell drove the Dodge with a single passenger while Wiser drove the Chevy with two passengers.

Justice of the Peace Doug Hurt declared both drivers dead at the scene.

Moreover, a passenger in the Chevy, Jessie Banuelos, 38, of Lorena, sustained incapacitating severe injuries.

It was determined by the authorities investigating the collision that the Dodge was towing a semi-trailer northbound on FM 45 at the time of the collision. At the same time, the Chevy was southbound on the same road.

The Dodge veered left crossing the center dividing stripe into the southbound lane to the shoulder of the roadway. Consequently, the Chevy tried to avoid the Dodge and drove onto the southbound shoulder, but struck the Dodge head-on on the southbound shoulder.

The speed limit at the crash scene is posted at 75 mph. The weather conditions during the accident were clear, and the road was dry.

Officers said none of those involved in the collision was wearing a seatbelt.
