38-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Vehicle near East 52nd Street
LONG BEACH, CA (September 10, 2018) – A man died of traumatic injuries sustained when his bicycle collided with a vehicle near East 52nd Street. The deceased victim was later identified as 38-year-old Michael Lee McIntyre.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the incident took place at about 1:30 PM on Orange Avenue. McIntyre was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Orange when he turned right on 52nd Street. There, he was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze that was approaching the intersection on a green light.
The bicyclist was rushed to a hospital in critical condition with major head and body trauma. Unfortunately, McIntyre succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead three days after the incident. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Chevrolet driver cooperated with investigators. No charges have been filed at this time.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify possible contributing factors.
