COACHELLA, CA (April 18, 2022) – Saturday night, authorities arrested Michael Anthony Berber following a crash on Monterey Avenue.

The incident happened as an officer tried to detain a driver on Calle Conejo and Avenue 48. Then, a vehicle struck the officer and fled the scene at around 10:46 p.m. Then, Michael Anthony Berber headed west on Avenue 48.

Afterward, he drove north on Jefferson Street. As the driver merged onto westbound Interstate 10, the CHP started the chase.

At around 11:19 p.m., officers stopped Michael Anthony Berber at Monterey Avenue and Varner Road. Then, they detained him.

Meanwhile, responders transported the injured officer to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Moreover, authorities booked Berber on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, felony evading/reckless driving, and a probation violation.

Also, the traffic stalled on eastbound Avenue 48 between Hjorth Street and Monroe Street until around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Furthermore, authorities booked 32-year-old Michael Anthony Berber into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
