Two Clement Middle School Students and Two Others Injured in Accident on Capri and Turquoise Avenues
MENTONE, CA (January 17, 2018) – Two sisters waiting for the school bus to arrive on the 1800 block of Capri Avenue, were struck and pinned by a Chevrolet sedan around 8 AM on Wednesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the unidentified man was speeding down Turquoise Avenue going south in a Chevy. He ran a stop sign at Capri Ave, crashing into a westbound white Ford sedan.
Both cars swerved into the southwest corner of Turquoise and Capri Ave from the impact of the crash, into an area where about 15 Clement Middle School students were waiting for the school bus.
Two sisters, ages 12 and 13, were struck by the Chevy, their legs pinned under the car. They were hospitalized for their injuries and are expected to survive. A woman and girl in the Ford were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Eric Sherwin, spokesman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
The male driver came out of the Chevy sedan and ran off, leaving the car at the scene with the two young girls under it. Police are still looking for the suspect, and continue to investigate the crash.
Remaining in the speed limit and paying attention to street signs and pedestrians, is essential when driving in residential areas. Rolling or not stopping at stop signs is illegal, so make sure to make a complete stop, look both ways, and count to three before driving on.
