I-35 Crash Kills Alexa Martinez Santos

Laredo, TX (March 7, 2023) – Just before 6 a.m. on Saturday, married couple Mayra Santos and Alexa Martinez Santos, and another, died in a vehicle crash on Interstate 35.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a Ford Taurus was southbound on the freeway. The vehicle’s driver, Kristian Rocha, 26, from Mission TX, lost control of the vehicle and went into the grassy median.

With no barriers in place, the Ford collided head-on into the Kia Sedan Mayra Santos and Alexa Martinez Santos were riding.

Officers said that due to injuries sustained from the collision, Rocha died at the scene.

The families of Mayra and Alexa said Mayra was a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, while her wife, Alexa, was a speech pathologist at Doctors Hospital.

The two women were on their way to San Antonio when the fatal crash happened.
