Passengers Injured in Riverside Transit Agency Bus Deadly Accident in Menifee

Menifee, CA (February 2, 2023) – On Tuesday, Mauricio Mendez, 28, of Chino, died and people were injured in a head-on collision on Matthews Road.

The authorities received the crash report at 3:18 at the intersection with Ethanac Road.

Lt. Denise Keith said Mauricio Mendez was driving a westbound Ford Mustang on Matthews Road. People in the area noticed him weaving in and out of traffic lanes as drove through the intersection.

Keith stated that the RTA bus was loaded with an unconfirmed number of passengers. It was eastbound on Matthews Road when the Mustang drove directly in front of it.

The bus driver was unable to drive out of Mauricio Mendez’s path. As a result, the two vehicles collided.

Unfortunately, Mendez died at the accident scene. Officers said he was the only occupant of the car at the time of the collision.

Moreover, several passengers on the RTA bus incurred minor to moderate injuries. They were treated at the scene. 

The paramedics took some of the injured passengers to a regional trauma center.
