38-Year-Old Oxnard Man Struck and Injured by Train near South Rose Avenue

OXNARD, CA (June 27, 2018) – A man was hospitalized Wednesday morning after he was struck by a train near South Rose Avenue.

According to the Oxnard Police, the collision took place shortly before 8:00 AM near East Fifth Street, just west of Rose Avenue. They responded to the scene and found 38-year-old Matthew Wunderlich, of Oxnard, lying near the railroad tracks suffering from moderate injuries to his upper torso.

Wunderlich was transported to an area hospital and was expected to survive. No other injuries were reported by the authorities. A preliminary investigation by Amtrak suggests that Wunderlich was alongside the railroad tracks when the collision happened. It is currently unclear why he walked onto the tracks and into the path of the train.

Anyone with relevant information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Amtrak Officer Neal Gold at (805) 637-9018. No additional details have been released to the public at this time.

Accidents involving trains can be incredibly dangerous, due to the size and weight of locomotives. Do not attempt to go near the tracks, especially if you see a train approaching. Always stay alert when driving, biking, or walking near train tracks.
