USC Freshman Dies after Struck by 2 Vehicles on 110 Freeway at 37th Street

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 25, 2019) – An 18-year-old University of Southern California student was killed after being struck by two vehicles early Sunday morning on 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles.
 
The crash happened around 2:44 a.m. north of 37th Street.
 
According to the CHP, Matthew Olson was walking south in two FasTrak lanes when he was struck by a Toyota. As Olson fell onto the ground, a second vehicle hit him and sped off without rendering aid.
 
The first driver stopped and helped Olson before paramedics arrived, according to the CHP.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, Olson was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Olson was set to begin his freshman year at USC, where he was planning to major in business.
 
He was a graduate of Corona del Mar High School, where he was part of the volleyball team that won the national championship last year and was also a member of the basketball team.
 
It was not immediately known why he was walking on the freeway, CHP said. Further investigation of this crash is underway.
