Driver Jailed in Fatal Collision on Orange Drive
Vacaville, CA (July 10, 2024) – Vacaville Police Officer Matthew Bowen, 32, was killed in a DUI crash near Leisure Town Road Thursday morning.
The fatal collision happened at about 10:30 a.m. on Orange Drive.
Investigators said Bowen initiated a traffic stop but was hit by another vehicle.
Bowen was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His motorcycle sustained heavy damage.
Moreover, the authorities said the driver, Serena Rodriguez, 24, of Auburn, was driving while under the influence of drugs.
Officers booked Rodriguez to the Solano County Jail and faces charges of homicide and driving under the influence causing injury and/or death.
Bowen leaves behind a wife and two young sons. He had previously worked with the Concord Police Dept for about three years and has been with the department since June 13, 2023.
Troopers said at least two other vehicles were damaged due to the collision.
