Matilde Saavedra and Courtney Louisville in Two-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway near State Route 166

Bakersfield, CA (August 17, 2020) – A two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck on Interstate 5 killed 56-year-old Matilde Saavedra and 15-year-old Courtney Louisville.

Moreover, the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash on August 16 on Interstate 5 just north of State Route 166.

Subsequently, the fatal collision involved a Ford F-150 and a Honda SUV. According to CHP, the pickup truck was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 and veered off to avoid debris in the fast lane.

However, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and continued on the westbound lanes before crashing into a northbound Honda SUV and another semi-truck.

As a result, the SUV rolled over and went off the right side of the road, then into an orchard. The impact of the collision seriously hurt three occupants of the SUV and emergency responders took them to the hospital. One of them suffered major injuries, according to the report.

Furthermore, the truck driver also sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatments.

Pending Investigation of Bakersfield Multi-Car Crash

Based on the investigation, CHP Sgt. Basil Zuniga said that neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be a factor in the incident.

The Highway 99 transition on Interstate 5 was closed but has since reopened.
