10 People Hurt in Scottsdale Wrong-way Accident on Loop 101 Pima Freeway and Chaparral Road

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (August 30, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, authorities reported injuries following a massive traffic crash on Loop 101 Pima Freeway at Chaparral Road.

The incident happened on Loop 101 Pima Freeway at Chaparral Road.

According to DPS Sgt. Eric Andrews, officers attempted to pull over a northbound vehicle for a traffic violation near Chaparral Road but the suspect vehicle took off, sparking a police chase.

Then, about two miles into the chase, officers performed a PIT maneuver, which spun around the suspect’s pickup truck, facing south. The suspect vehicle sped off again, traveling in the wrong direction.

Moreover, about 2 miles in, the suspect vehicle collided with six other vehicles before rolling over into its roof.

As a result, two occupants of the truck, and eight people from the other vehicles sustained minor to serious injuries.

Furthermore, the crash closed northbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway, but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
