Mary Watts and Frances Woodard Dies in US 287 Traffic Accident [Childress, TX]

Motorist Hurt in Fatal 2-Vehicle Collision on Highway 287

Childress, TX (August 26, 2023) On Thursday afternoon, 85-year-old Frances Woodard and 84-year-old Mary Watts died in a traffic accident on U.S. 287.

According to the Texas DPS, another person was injured in the fatal 2-vehicle collision that happened around 1:10 p.m. on Highway 287.

Reports say that Woodard was driving a 2004 Toyota Tundra that attempted to cross over the southbound lanes to start traveling north on U.S. 287, however a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 was southbound on U.S. 287.

The Dodge driver tried to stop to avoid collision, however the driver was unsuccessful, the Tundra struck the Ram’s driver’s side door.

Officials pronounced Woodard dead at the scene, while her passenger Watts was airlifted to the hospital, however she succumbed to the injuries she received in the casg and died at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Dodge was transported to Childress hospital with minor injuries.
