Mary Lou Flores Killed in Horrific Car-to-Car Shooting Crash on Shaw Avenue and Brawley Avenue [Fresno, CA]

1 Dead in Fresno Auto Accident on Shaw Avenue and Brawley Avenue

FRESNO, CA (August 2, 2023) – Monday night, Mary Lou Flores died in a horrific car-to-car shooting crash on Shaw Avenue and Brawley Avenue.

The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Shaw Avenue and Brawley Avenue.

The authorities responded to reports of a shooting victim at a nearby Walmart and a crash.

Authorities later determined that three vehicles traveled south on Brawley Avenue. Then, someone in a Toyota RAV4 started firing at the Nissan Sentra Flores was driving.

As a result, a 24-year-old man driving a Chevy Malibu was hit in the head and stopped at the Walmart at Brawley and Shaw Avenues to call the police.

Meanwhile, the Toyota RAV4 and Flores’ car went down Brawley Avenue at what investigators say was 60 to 70 miles per hour until both cars crashed and caught fire at the intersection of Brawley and Weber Avenues.

“Traveling at that rate speed is difficult to negotiate the curve that is coming up,” Lt. Paul Cervantes revealed.

After the crash, responders took Flores and the other occupants in the car to the hospital. However, Flores was later pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the authorities do not believe any of the other people inside Flores’s car were hit by gunfire.

Also, the male driver of the RAV4 and a female passenger both escaped the scene on foot. Both of them remained at large.

Also, the authorities haven’t determined who was the one firing from the RAV4.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old was listed in critical condition at the hospital but is expected to survive his injuries.

Officers noted that the 24-year-old has family connections to Flores.

Meanwhile, investigators revealed that the incident was caused by a prior disturbance involving all parties, and Fresno police were responding to that disturbance before diverting to the shooting.

“Miss Flores did not deserve to be involved in this tragedy,” Cervantes added.

Fresno Police investigates the crash as a homicide, the city’s 23rd of the year.
