Markella Smith Dies in Pedestrian Accident on Highway 138 [San Bernardino, CA]

Las Vegas Resident Markella Smith Identified as Fatality in Phelan Accident on State Route 138

 
Phelan, CA (June 18, 2020) – On Wednesday, at around 3:46 a.m., 25-year-old Markella Smith died in an accident on Highway 138 near Lone Pine Canyon Road.
 
California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred when a 20-year-old Phelan man drove a black 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. He was eastbound on Highway 138 at a speed of 60 mph.
 
The driver then hit a female pedestrian that was running through the first lane of the highway, near mile marker 13.5.
 
Unfortunately, rescuers pronounced the woman, now identified as Ms. Smith, dead at the scene.
 
Moreover, the authorities claim Markella was a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada.
 
Crews temporarily closed the two lanes of eastbound Highway 138 as they investigate the scene.
