Early Morning 4-Vehicle Crash on 80 Freeway in Richmond Kills 2 Men
RICHMOND, CA (September 29, 2019) – Two men died following a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Richmond.
The crash happened around 4:00 a.m. on westbound 80 Freeway near the Barrett Avenue exit.
According to the CHP, a Honda CRV, a Nissan Altima and two other vehicles were involved. The impact caused the Honda to catch fire, killing one of its occupant. In addition, police stated an occupant in the Nissan also died as a result of the crash.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Mario Rivera-Martinez of Oakland and Franklin Suazo of San Pablo.
Paramedics transported a third person to Highland Hospital in Oakland with serious injuries, according to the CHP.
The crash blocked all four freeway lanes until after 8:00 a.m. However, they opened soon after.
Details surrounding the collision were not made clear in the reports and media releases. Further investigation is underway.
