One Killed and One Arrested after Accident near 84th Street East
TACOMA, WA (April 18, 2018) – A woman lost her life after a speeding driver struck her vehicle, late Wednesday evening. She was later identified as 60-year-old Marianne Burton.
According to the police, the accident happened around 10:35 PM. A Toyota Prius, driven by Burton, was traveling through McKinley Avenue East when a speeding Hyundai Elantra tried to pass the vehicle. As both vehicles neared 84th Street East, the Elantra struck the Prius.
The Elantra, driven by an unnamed 25-year-old woman, ended up on a nearby sidewalk. Burton suffered life-threatening injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. It is unknown if the unidentified driver was injured, but she was arrested on the suspicion of vehicular homicide.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the fatal collision to the public at this time.
