East Hemmi Road Rollover Crash Sends Mariah Javier and Another to Hospital
Whatcom County, WA (May 14, 2021) – On Thursday, 22-year-old Mariah Javier and a 35-year-old Blaine man were injured in a rollover crash on East Hemmi Road.
Officers responded to the accident scene at 6:10 p.m. at the Hannegan Road intersection.
Officers said a westbound silver 2013 Hyundai Elantra sedan driven by Javier on East Hemmi Road failed to stop at the stop sign at Hannegan Road.
Apparently, her vehicle attempted to turn northbound on Hannegan Road when it collided into the side of a black 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by the Blaine man.
As a result, the pickup truck rolled ending up on its side off the roadway.
The drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles. Rescuers took both of them to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham.
Authorities said Javier sustained serious life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Chevrolet incurred minor injuries.
Moreover, officers said Javier was not been wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.
On the other hand, the Chevrolet driver was wearing his seatbelt.
Moreover, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
Authorities said failure to yield the right of way was given as the cause of the accident. Charges remain under investigation.
