Juan Esquivala, Marbella Reyes-Braz Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101
GREENFIELD, CA (July 21, 2019) – Two drivers died following a wrong-way crash late Sunday evening in Monterey County.
The crash reported around 11:55 p.m., on northbound Highway 101 near Hudson Road. According to the California Highway Patrol said, a 71-year-old Juan Esquival of Salinas was driving a white 2002 Honda Odyssey southbound in the northbound lanes at a high rate of speed when it collided head-on with a 2015 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 38-year-old Marbella Reyes-Braz of San Jose.
After the initial crash, the Nissan SUV was hit by a 2016 Ford Fusion, driven by an 18-year-old Folsom man, and a 2015 Peterbilt truck, driven by a 24-year-old Apple Valley man.
The Ford and tractor then continued further north and struck each other. At that point, all of the vehicles came to a stop.
Both Reyes-Braz and Esquival were killed in the crash.
A 39-year-old Ruciel Luna, Reyes-Braz’s husband, suffered major injuries and is expected to be in the hospital for weeks. Two children in the Nissan were also hospitalized.
The teen driver of the Ford and his 46-year-old female passenger, both from Folsom, suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the tractor remained unharmed.
