Manuel Rosales Detained Following DUI Pedestrian Collision on Road 25 Near Avenue 9

MADERA, CA (December 6, 2018) – A 17-year-old boy waiting for the school bus on Road 25 near Avenue 9 was struck and seriously injured by DUI driver Monday morning.

The teen pedestrian has not been identified but according to reports, he was waiting for the school bus around 6:30 a.m. just before sunrise. The Madera South High School student was on the east shoulder of Road 25 just north of Avenue 9 when the driver of a Chevy Astro van, heading southbound at excessive speeds, veered to the left, crossing both lanes of traffic, and struck the young teen.

The victim was thrown a hundred feet into the orchard and suffered critical injuries. Following the crash, bus drivers and motorists stopped to help.

Per Public information Officer Greg Rodriguez, the boy suffered major injuries to his legs and abdominal area and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevy Astro van was identified as Manuel Morales Rosales, of Madera. The 23-year-old is facing charges of felony DUI and was hospitalized with minor injuries before being booked into the Madera County Jail.
