Columbia, Mo (April 11, 2025) – A man and a woman sustained moderate injuries in a crash on Interstate 70 in Cooper County Friday evening , according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

The report states that a 63-year-old man from Holden, Missouri, was driving a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound when he slowed down due to traffic congestion. 

A 19-year-old man from Decatur, Alabama, driving a 2006 Hummer H2, failed to stop in time and rear-ended the Jeep.

The crash occurred at 6:35 p.m. near mile marker 111. MSHP Troop F, which oversees much of Mid-Missouri, posted on social media at 7:11 p.m. that the collision had blocked lanes and caused significant traffic backups. 

Troop F later confirmed that eastbound lanes fully reopened by 8:23 p.m., though traffic remained slow for some time afterward.

Emergency responders transported the 63-year-old driver and his 60-year-old female passenger, both from Holden, to University Hospital with moderate injuries. 

The Jeep suffered moderate damage, while the Hummer sustained extensive damage, according to the report.

All individuals involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
