Pedestrian in Wheelchair Fatally Struck by Vehicle near I Avenue

HESPERIA, CA (November 11, 2018) – A man in a wheelchair was killed Sunday evening following a pedestrian accident on Bear Valley Road. The identity of the victim is being withheld, pending positive identification and family notification.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at about 9:25 PM near I Avenue. Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was heading east in a lane when he was hit by a 2002 Toyota Prius.

The impact of the collision ejected the man from his wheelchair, causing serious injuries.

Paramedics from American Medical Response (AMR) arrived and attempted to resuscitate the victim. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Prius and his female passenger were transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries. Further updates on their current medical conditions were not provided.

Alcohol and speed were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation at this time. Witnesses are encouraged to cooperate by calling Deputies Taylor Lamson and Jeremy Deburg at (760) 947-1500. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
