Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train near Tamarack Surf Beach

 
CARLSBAD, CA (May 30, 2019) – An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak Train on Carlsbad Village Drive, Thursday morning. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending family notification.
 
As per reports, the incident happened near Tamarack Surf Beach, at about 8:00 AM. A northbound Amtrak train was traveling at about 80 mph when its engineer spotted a man standing on a pedestrian crossing.
 
The engineer immediately sounded his horn to warn the pedestrian, who allegedly jumped in front of the train.
 
Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim appeared to be 25 to 35 years old, according to authorities.
 
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash. Additional details will be released once they become available.
