Man Hospitalized After Mount Helix Pedestrian Accident on Grandview Drive

Mount Helix, CA (November 19, 2020) – On Thursday, a 63-year-old man was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident on Grandview Drive.

The Mount Helix area accident happened before 7 a.m. when a Ford Explorer driver heading east on the narrow two-lane road struck the pedestrian.

Apparently, the woman, 42, was driving around 35 to 45 mph and said the sun got into her eyes.

California Highway Patrol officer Travis Garrow said it appears she swerved off the right shoulder of the roadway, where she struck a trash can and the pedestrian who was walking on the shoulder area. From that point, the vehicle spun to the left and impacted the embankment.

Then, the vehicle came to a rest on its passenger side.

Additionally, Garrow said the victim may have been wearing earbuds at the time of the accident. He was walking westbound against traffic when he was struck.

Similarly, the officer said that is the safest way for pedestrians to walk so they can see traffic as they approach that might come too near.

The man sustained serious injuries. The rescuers took him by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

Lastly, Garrow urged drivers to pay attention, particularly as the holidays approach.

“Please concentrate on your driving. We are trying to avoid these types of collisions all year round, but especially around the holiday season,” he said.

May this be a reminder to all drivers that operating a vehicle is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Moreover, put all distractions away and be careful around other travelers. Furthermore, always keep a safe distance from other vehicles around you. By being a defensive driver, you can minimize the risks of car accidents.
