Man in Motorized Wheelchair Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Henderson
HENDERSON, NV (May 07, 2019) – A man in a motorized wheelchair died after being struck by a vehicle on Boulder Highway near Sunset Road Monday morning. The Henderson police and fire personnel responded to the accident which was reported at around 6:30 a.m.
Based on a preliminary investigation, a 2009 Volkswagen driven by an adult female was headed north on Boulder Highway when it hit the pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair. The police said the adult male in the motorized wheelchair was traveling in the bicycle lane.
The man sustained critical injuries. Emergency responders transported him to Henderson Hospital where he later died. The driver of the Volkswagen, who was not hurt in the crash, remained at the scene.
According to the police, speed and impairment appeared to be factors in the crash which caused the shutdown of the northbound Boulder Highway for several hours.
It was reported that the man’s death was the fifth traffic-related fatality in Henderson this year.
