28-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle near Hicks Haul Road
ORANGE COUNTY, CA (July 4, 2018) – A man was killed early Wednesday morning following a pedestrian collision on East Santiago Canyon Road near Hicks Haul Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 12:40 AM. A blue 2016 Hyundai Sonata lost control, left the roadway, and slammed into a tree before coming to a rest in the opposing traffic lane. The 28-year-old driver exited the wrecked vehicle, leaving a 27-year-old female passenger inside.
Due to existing roadway conditions, a southbound silver 2007 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Luis Rocha, 44, of Mission Viejo, failed to avoid a head-on collision with the disabled Sonata. The impact pushed the vehicle to the 28-year-old man, causing traumatic and fatal injuries. The Hyundai driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
An investigation is underway to determine liability in the fatal accident. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. May he rest in peace.
