Man Struck in Fatal Merced Pedestrian Crash on Golden State Boulevard
MERCED, CA (November 3, 2020) – Monday morning, a 27-year-old man died in a pedestrian accident on Golden State Boulevard and Griffith Avenue.
According to reports, the pickup vs. pedestrian crash happened around 4:45 a.m. It occurred on Golden State Boulevard, north of Griffith Avenue.
When the officers arrived, they found a Toyota Tacoma on the west shoulder of the Golden State Boulevard. They also found the man lying in the southbound lane.
According to the preliminary investigation, the man who died had crashed north on Daubenger Road in Stanislaus County. Then, he went out of his vehicle. Meanwhile, the Toyota driver was driving south at around 50 mph when he noticed the man. He tried to veer to the right but couldn’t avoid the crash.
The CHP revealed that the man looked like he was walking east in the middle of the southbound lanes. After the crash, the Toyota driver stopped on the right shoulder and contacted 911.
Paramedics came to the scene and provided treatment to the pedestrian. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the Toyota driver was uninjured. Also, the authorities found out that he was not under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
Moreover, the authorities haven’t determined whether the pedestrian was under the influence.
The authorities continue to investigate the crash. Moreover, they are urging any witnesses to contact CHP Officer J. Salas at 209-356-6600.
