Speeding Driver of Stolen Car Dies in Fiery Crash on Highway 101 in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (January 16, 2020) – A speeding driver of a stolen car died in a fiery crash late Thursday evening in San Jose.
 
The crash happened around 11:28 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just south of Story Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound in the fast lane at speeds topping 100 mph. It then suddenly careened across all lanes of traffic and onto the dirt embankment near the 280 Freeway split.
 
At that point, the car lost control, hit a guardrail and then spun into the pole of an overhead sign. The car was spit in half from the impact and burst into flames.
 
Emergency crews found the male driver trapped inside the burning vehicle and pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
While on scene, officers determined that the Dodge was stolen out of South San Francisco.
 
The CHP closed two northbound lanes for the on-scene investigation.
