BUELLTON, CA (June 15, 2019) – A 79-year-old man died following a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Highway 101 in Buellton.

The crash happened around 5:00 a.m, in the southbound lanes of the highway. Dispatchers arrived near the Avenue of the Flags off-ramp shortly after.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a Kia Soul were side by side when they collided.

Both vehicles veered off the roadway and overturned into the brush on the right shoulder. The Kia landed on its side, while the Silverado ended up on its roof.

Paramedics transported the male driver of the Silverado to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. However, police did not publicly identify the victim.

The Kia’s driver, 23-year-old Karari J. Cherry of San Francisco, was not injured. An ambulance transported the Kia passenger, Waqui Jada, 24, of San Francisco, to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital. The passenger sustained minor injuries.

It is unknown if speed, drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
