Twentynine Palms Man Fatally Injured in Yucca Valley Crash

YUCCA VALLEY, CA (July 3, 2019) — A 32-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in a crash on Twentynine Palms Highway Sunday night.

The California Highway Patrol said they responded to the incident at 9:44 p.m., just east of Samel Road.

Based on a CHP press release, the man was driving a blue 1999 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the highway. On the other hand, a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was westbound on the highway, approaching the Chevy from the opposite direction.

The witnesses of the crash said the driver of the Chevy was driving recklessly before the crash. He was driving eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes at a high rate of speed.

The Chevy subsequently hit the guardrail attenuator separating the two sides of the highway. The force of the crash overturned the vehicle and ejected the driver. The Chevy came to rest blocking the eastbound traffic lanes.

Officials said the driver of the Chevy suffered fatal injuries. Officials have not released his name, only identifying him as a 32-year-old man from Twentynine Palms.

Additionally, they said the driver of the Volkswagen, 28-year-old Gina Hannah of Yucca Valley, was not injured.

The crash propelled debris into the westbound traffic lanes. It struck the windshield of Volkswagen. Both vehicles sustained major damage from the crash.

Whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident is still being determined in an ongoing investigation. In the meantime, officers urge anyone with information about this crash to call the CHP at (760) 366-3707.

Our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the victim.
