1 Dead in Fresno County Bicycle Crash on American Avenue and Chestnut Avenue

FRESNO COUNTY, CA (August 4, 2024) – Saturday morning, a man died in a brutal bicycle accident on American Avenue and Chestnut Avenue.

The incident involved a pickup truck and a bicyclist. Around 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy encountered someone assisting an injured bicyclist on American Avenue, west of Chestnut Avenue. Shortly after, Fresno-area CHP officers arrived to take over the investigation.

The bicyclist, identified as a Hispanic male around 60 years old, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died.

Investigators determined that the cyclist was traveling east on American Avenue when a black Chevy pickup approached from behind and struck him before fleeing the scene.

The CHP has since acquired video footage from a nearby surveillance camera showing the collision occurring at 4:54 a.m., indicating that the injured man lay at the scene for an hour before being found by law enforcement. The footage also shows two silver or light-colored vehicles passing the crash scene as the incident occurred.
