60-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck near Systron Drive
CONCORD, CA (July 11, 2018) – A man was killed early Wednesday morning following a bicycle collision on San Miguel Road.
The collision took place shortly after midnight near Systron Drive. A 60-year-old bicyclist was attempting to cross San Miguel Road when he was struck by a 1990s-model GMC pickup truck, driven by a 57-year-old Antioch man.
The bicyclist, determined to be a resident of Concord, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately released until his next of kin has been notified by the Contra Costa County coroner. The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the investigators.
Authorities believe that drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the deadly collision. The cause remains under investigation and anyone with additional information regarding this fatal incident is encouraged to call Officer Lawrence at (925) 671-5097.
