Man Killed after Struck by Car on 80 Freeway near 580 Freeway [ALBANY, CA]

Driver Standing Outside Disabled Car Fatally Struck by Passing Vehicle on 80 Freeway in Albany

 
ALBANY, CA (September 15, 2019) – A man whose car became disabled was killed when a passing vehicle struck him early Sunday morning, authorities said.
 
The fatal incident happened around 2:00 a.m. on eastbound 80 Freeway, just near the junction with 580 Freeway.
 
CHP officers responded and found the man lying in the roadway. Berkeley paramedics attempted life-saving aid but the victim, appeared to be in his 30s, died at the scene. The man’s name and city of residence were not immediately available.
 
Based on the preliminary investigation, a 1998 Honda Civic had become disabled on the freeway in the lane to the right of the fast lane. The driver got out of the Honda and was standing on the highway near his car, when a 2018 Jeep Cherokee struck him.
 
The Jeep driver, who sustained a broken wrist during the crash, remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
Officers do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
