1 Injured in Del Mar Train Accident near 8th Street

DEL MAR, CA (July 21, 2020) – Saturday afternoon, a man suffered injuries in a train crash near 8th Street.

According to reports, the crash happened at about 2:50 p.m. near 8th Street and Stratford Court.

The male pedestrian ran down the middle of the tracks while wearing headphones. At the same time, the Amtrak train blared its horn when it approached just a mile behind the pedestrian. The pedestrian finds out of the oncoming train but couldn’t move in time.

Terry Gaasterland, deputy mayor of the City of Del Mar said, “What’s common is people being on the tracks and not being aware that these are active tracks. We need more signage.”

Responders took the seriously injured pedestrian to a local hospital.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.

California Accidents and Wrongful Deaths

Pedestrian fatalities continue to rise in the United States. More pedestrians were killed in 2018 than in any year since 1990.
