Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Train while Walking on Tracks on Eastside Road in Redding
REDDING, CA (September 8, 2019) – A man was fatally struck by a train Sunday afternoon in Redding, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened around 12:00 p.m. near Eastside Road and Progress Drive.
Deputies say a white man, believed to be in his early 50s or 60s, was walking on the tracks and did not move off in time when an oncoming train hit him.
As a result, the victim died at the scene. His name was not immediately available pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. Deputies say the man is believed to have been a transient.
The conductor on the train blew the horn several times to try and get the man to move, according to deputies.
At this time, authorities do not believe the man was trying to commit suicide.
The incident is still on active investigation while the authorities are putting the pieces together.
