Driver Killed and Child Injured in Pickup Truck Accident at 1600 North Rose Avenue

OXNARD, CA (May 24, 2018) – A driver was killed and his child passenger was injured in a single vehicle crash on North Rose Avenue, early Thursday morning.

Officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a traffic collision at around 4:00 AM on the 1600 block of North Rose Avenue. They found a green 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck in the center divider across from St Johns Medical Center.

It was determined that the vehicle was traveling on Rose Avenue at a high rate of speed, but it was not confirmed at the time why the vehicle left the roadway and struck a palm tree in the center divider.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 30-year-old man of Oxnard and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 2-year-old male toddler was found in the front passenger’s seat secured in a child-seat. Oxnard Fire Department and Gold Coast Ambulance personnel rendered aid to the child before he was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center. It was confirmed that the child sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.

All southbound traffic on Rose Ave was closed from Gonzales Rd for several hours while Oxnard Police Department Traffic Officers conducted their investigation. The roadway has since been reopened.

The identities of the deceased man and the injured child are being withheld pending notification to family.

Officers believe speed and alcohol may have been factors in the collision. The accident is still under investigation, and anyone who witnessed it or has more information is urged to contact Senior Officer Jamie Brown at (805)385-7749 or via email Jamie.brown@oxnardpd.org.
