Phabian Bynaum Dies in HWY 36 Collision

Milam County, TX (January 28, 2023) – On Thursday, Malik Thomas, 21, Davarius Hoelscher, 20, and Phabian Bynaum, 19, all of Cameron, died in a fiery crash on Highway 36.

At about 3:49 p.m., a vehicle fleeing from an MCSO deputy at a high rate of speed drove off the roadway and crashed onto private property south of County Road 337.

As a result of the collision, the vehicle became fully engulfed in fire.

Immediately, the Milano Fire Department rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The Texas Department of Public Safety also responded to the accident scene.

DPS said Phabian Bynaum was driving a 2015 Dodge Challenger. He tried to pass another vehicle on the southbound shoulder when the right tire left the roadway. Phabian Bynaum lost control of the Dodge.

The vehicle crossed into the northbound lane crashed through a fence and collided with a tree. It landed upside down and then started a fire.

Responding officers declared Malik Thomas, Davarius Hoelscher, and Phabian Bynaum, dead at the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the HWY 36 collision.
