CHP Investigates Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Chicago Avenue in Merced

Merced, CA (July 4, 2023) – Monday night, a 49-year-old male sustained severe injuries in a crash on Chicago Avenue and Ellen Avenue.

The crash on Chicago Avenue happened around 7:20 p.m. on July 3.

According to the CHP, a Ford driver was traveling north on Chicago Avenue, crossing Paradise Road, and turning right onto Ellen Avenue when the driver struck the pedestrian who was crossing Ellen Avenue from east to west.

The 48-year-old pedestrian was transported to a Modesto hospital for treatment for major injuries.

Officers say the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and did not sustain any injuries.

Investigators believe no alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.

Further investigation is ongoing.
