Gyvaughn Smith Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash near Millbrae Avenue
SANTA ROSA, CA (July 5, 2018) – A man was killed Thursday morning after his bicycle was struck by two vehicles in Sonoma County. A family member identified 35-year-old Lusiano Garcia, of Santa Rosa, as the fatality in this tragic incident.
The crash was reported around 4:40 AM. Authorities found Garcia dead in the south left turn lane of Stony Point Road north of Millbrae Avenue. Events leading to the fatal collision were not immediately available.
Investigators stated that the bicyclist was struck by two vehicles, a Jeep Liberty and a dark-colored sedan. Both drivers fled the scene and headed to Santa Rosa’s southwestern outskirts before emergency personnel arrived.
Officers were able to locate one of the hit-and-run drivers, 22-year-old Gyvaughn Smith, of Santa Rosa, after his Jeep was reported by a pedestrian in the roadway on Stony Point Road near Sebastopol Road. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, misdemeanor DUI, and driving without a license.
The second driver had not yet been located. Anyone with information about the collision or the whereabouts of the hit-and-run driver is asked to call the CHP at (707) 588-1400. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
