Woman Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 184 Identified

Bakersfield, CA (May 26, 2020) – The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman killed in a DUI crash near E. Wilson Road on Monday night as Luciana Perez, a Lamont resident.

California Highway Patrol first received a report about a woman struck on Monday night.

Officials later confirmed Perez, 32, walked into the southbound lane of SR-184 directly into the path of a 2014 Volkswagen Passat moving southbound.

Officers report that the driver of the Volkswagon swerved and struck the pedestrian.

The victim was then rushed to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, but she was later pronounced dead due to major injuries.

Moreover, the driver of the Volkswagon, who was identified as Avila Jr. was found guilty on DUI and subsequently arrested. Yet, it is not clear whether the pedestrian was also intoxicated, CHP says.

Officers continue to investigate in this case.

CHP Bakersfield Area Office asks anyone with information about this crash to call (661)396-6600.

The Aftermath of a Wrongful Death

In the case of a wrongful death, it is crucial that the family of the victim become aware of their rights. There may be a right to file a lawsuit against the person responsible for the loss of their loved one. Those closest to the victim may have the right to seek compensation for their loss.
