Man Hospitalized after SUV Crashes into Tere’s Mexican Grill on the 5800 block of Melrose Avenue
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 7, 2018) – A 26-year-old man sustained serious leg injuries after a vehicle crashed into a restaurant on Melrose Avenue, late Saturday afternoon.
According to witnesses, an SUV into Tere’s Mexican Grill around 4:30 PM in Hancock Park, when it turned onto Melrose from Cahuenga and lost control. The SUV hit one of the two customers eating outside at the time, pushing the victim into the establishment.
After the collision, the SUV backed up and then took off. It was stopped from going further inside of the restaurant due to a metal reinforcement. The injured man was helped by good Samaritans in the area, and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The owner of the restaurant stated that the man could not get out of the way in time.
Witnesses also reported that another good Samaritan ran after the SUV to get a license plate number and police found the SUV abandoned nearby. Authorities confirmed that the driver fled the scene, leaving the SUV just around the corner next to a Pavilions grocery store. Investigation continues as LAPD officials look for the hit-and-run driver.
