58-Year-Old Coarsegold Woman Fatally Injured in Collision near Avenue 240

LINDSAY, CA (April 24, 2018) – A 58-year-old woman of Coarsegold was killed in a fatal two-car crash on Highway 65, late Tuesday morning.

The collision occurred around 11:30 AM, when a 58-year-old Coarsegold woman was driving a Volkswagen southbound on Highway 65, just south of Avenue 240. She was traveling at speeds higher than the speed limit of 55, according to California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses reported that the woman was distracted and did not see that traffic was slowing down in front of her, which caused her to slam on her brakes in an attempt to avoid traffic. The Volkswagen veered right into a ditch before spinning into the path of a northbound Chevrolet, driven by 57-year-old Michael G. McCoy of Bakersfield. The Chevrolet struck the passenger side of the Volkswagen.

Police officials and emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after. McCoy received medical treatment for cuts on his face, while the female driver was pulled out of her car and transported to the Kaweah Delta Medical Center. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
