Injuries Reported in Bakersfield Auto Accident on Copus Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 18, 2024) – Early Wednesday, Lewis Franco and 4 others sustained injuries in a startling head-on crash on Copus Road.
The incident happened when a westbound Chevrolet Silverado passed other westbound traffic at about 80 miles per hour.
The driver of a Chevrolet misjudged the distance between her vehicle and an oncoming Toyota carrying Taft women in the eastbound lanes, resulting in a head-on collision.
The Toyota driver, 47-year-old Franco of Maricopa, sustained moderate injuries, while one passenger, Fredy Romero, 16, also of Maricopa, suffered minor injuries. However, the Taft women, Nereida Lopez, 31, and Analleli Romero, 20, sustained major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The Chevrolet driver, Nidia Alvara, 52, suffered minor injuries, according to CHP reports. All individuals involved were wearing their safety restraints at the time of the accident.
CHP investigators have determined that alcohol and cell phone usage were not contributing factors to the collision.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
