65-Year-Old Woman Killed in Head-On Crash on Oregon Expressway at Highway 101

PALO ALTO, CA (February 22, 2018) – A 65-year-old woman died in a head-on collision on Oregon Expressway in Palo Alto on Thursday.

The woman has been identified as Leslie Loeser of Merced County, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office. Palo Alto police say that Loeser was a passenger in a silver 2018 Kia Optima driven by her husband, a Livingston man in his 60’s.

Loeser’s vehicle was exiting southbound U.S. Highway 101 to Oregon Expressway, when it crossed over the median at around 4:42 AM and struck a food delivery van that was in the farthest left-hand lane of eastbound Oregon Expressway. Investigators said that the driver of the van is a man in his 30s.

The impact caused both vehicles to spin out and sustain significant damage.

Emergency responders found Loeser in critical condition at the scene of the crash. She was rushed, along with her husband and the other driver, to Stanford Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries and was later pronounced dead. Loeser’s husband and the truck driver remain in the Stanford hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Oregon Expressway at West Bayshore Road was closed off without access to Highway 101 for about five hours after the crash. Officials investigated and cleaned up the wreckage from the road.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Both drivers spoke to investigators at the hospital and Loeser’s husband was not cited or arrested for her death.
