Leroy Smith of Castro Valley Killed in Hatch Road DUI Collision [Ceres, CA]

Ceres, CA (December 14, 2023) – Leroy Smith, 89, of Castro Valley, and Youkhana Atrmiz, 36, of Ceres, were killed in a Hatch Road DUI collision Tuesday night.

The deadly traffic accident happened in the area of Boothe Road wherein a Chrysler 300 and a Toyota Prius collided head-on.

CPD officers and the Modesto Fire Department responded at about 8:20 p.m. to the collision and located three people who were unresponsive and trapped inside vehicles. 

The Toyota passenger, Leroy Don Smith, was declared deceased at the scene. 

The Chrysler driver, Youkhana Atrmiz, was extricated from the vehicle and was taken to a hospital where he died from injuries.

Moreover, the Toyota driver, a 64-year-old Castro Valley woman, incurred major injuries. Officers said she was in serious but stable condition at a hospital. 

Investigators said Atrmiz was eastbound on Hatch Road when he crossed over the double yellow lines and hit the Toyota head-on. 

Officers said Atrmiz was not wearing a seat belt during that collision.

Meanwhile, the authorities determined drugs, alcohol or high speed played roles in the collision.
