4 Dead and 1 Injured in 2-Vehicle Collision near South Blosser Road
SANTA MARIA, CA (July 6, 2018) – Four people were killed late Friday evening and another was hospitalized following a collision between two vehicles.
At about 11:19 PM, a white Toyota Tundra was seen driving recklessly, going westbound on Stowell Road from the JC Penney parking lot. Shortly after, a Santa Maria Police officer reported a traffic collision in the area of West Stowell Road and South Blosser Road. Two vehicles – the Toyota pickup and a Cadillac Escalade – were determined to be involved in the collision. Events leading to the crash were not immediately available.
Three passengers in the Cadillac, 47-year-old Leonicelle Abaigar of Texas, 52-year-old Necitas Santa Maria of Washington, and a 13-year-old girl from Texas, were pronounced dead at the scene by the authorities. Their driver, identified as Catleen Dionisio, was transported to the Marian Regional Medical Center after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup, identified as 27-year-old Jesse Angel Plata Jr of Arroyo Grande, was airlifted to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. He was pronounced dead by medical professionals a few hours later. Authorities confirmed that Plata was the sole occupant of the pickup.
Investigators believe that speed was a contributing factor in the deadly crash. It was also noted the occupants of the Cadillac were all secured in seat belts at the time of the collision. Authorities are also investigating drugs and alcohol as possible factors.
