Motorcyclist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 405 Freeway Near Gardena
Gardena, CA (May 18, 2025) – 47-year-old Leonard Montanez was killed after a multi-vehicle crash on the San Diego (405) Freeway late Friday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly incident happened at around 10:45 p.m. near the Vermont Avenue exit.
Reports say that a motorcyclist lost his life in the multi-vehicle crash near Gardena.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Montanez. He sustained multiple blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the L.A. County Fire Department.
CHP officers responded to the crash Authorities found Montanez lying in the slow lane and an overturned vehicle with a camper blocking another lane.
The CHP issued a Sigalert, temporarily closing the Vermont and Normandie Avenue exits along with three lanes of the southbound freeway to investigate the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
