Cordoza Sisters Killed and Edith Cordoza Injured after Car Runs Red Light at Somersville Road and Delta Fair Boulevard Intersection

ANTIOCH, CA (January 17, 2018) – Officials reported a fatal car accident on the Somersville Road and Delta Fair Boulevard intersection near Highway 4 and the Somersvile Town Center, around 1 PM on Wednesday.

A Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriff spotted a car around 12:47 PM, that was reported stolen that same morning. The deputy followed the white Ford F250 pickup truck onto Highway 4, not turning on his emergency lights for safety. The man in the stolen truck then exited Somersville Road and accelerated, running a red light and crashing into a grey Ford pickup truck that was going south.

Occupants of the second truck were a mother, Edith Cardoza, and her two daughters, Lenexy and Camila Cardoza of Pittsburg. All three victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Edith was released from the hospital after undergoing surgery and is recovering. The four-year-old girl, Lenexy was reported dead around 10:12 that same evening of the crash, according to authorities. Camila, 2, had been on life support at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, and was taken off of life support by her family after being declared brain dead by doctors. The Cordoza family will be donating the little girl’s organs, in hope to save another young child’s life.

Noe Saucedo, a 23-year-old man from Pittsburg, was arrested and taken to jail after being treated at the hospital. The Contra Costa DAs office has filed formal charges against Saucedo on Friday, including murder, felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of methamphetamine and heroin. His bail is set at over 1.1 million dollars.

Somersville Road was closed in both directions near the Highway 4 underpass for several hours, as authorities investigated and cleared the road of debris from the crash.

GoFundMe pages were set up to help the family pay for funeral costs for Lenexy and Camila, and also for the Cordoza Family.

Our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Lenexy and Camila Cardoza.
